Amulet in the shape of a tiger - (5881)
[5881]

Interesting amulet which entered the collection in 1974 from Luzern, Switzerland. It represents a tiger with a hole in its mouth which connects to another hole through its flanks. The carving is well executed. The reddish brown spots are perhaps the result of dying. There is an inscription on the bottom, reading Marquis Wu of Han, which in our opinion was meant to make it look older than it is but it could very well date back to the Song period (960 -1179 AD) or later. Length 4.0 cm. Width 1.4 cm. Height 1.5 cm. Weight 16.7 grams.
