Carved from white Hetian jade, this small figure of a goose on a lotus leaf could have served as a toggle. The goose carries a lotus stem in his beak. A Lotus seed pod (lianfang or lianpeng) symbolizes Fertility. The jade is of a very light celadon color, which is called ‘white’ in China and the carving was done in great detail. The goose dates from the Qing period (1644 - 1912). Width 3.5 cm. Depth 2.3 cm. Height 3.7 cm.
