A fish on a lotus leaf expresses the wish for prosperity, year after year. This particular example is carved from a yellowish material and dates from the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). The carving came from the Rudolph Voll collection in California. Rudolph Voll (1911 - 2009) visited Hong Kong on a regular basis during the 1970's and acquired a very large collection of small jade items (See Quick Find 4167). Length 4.3 cm. Height 2.6 cm. Depth 1.4 cm. Weight 15.5 grams.
