The fish symbolizes abundance and wealth. This particular example is carved from a greenish brown material and dates from the early Qing period (1644 - 1912) and possibly even earlier. The carving came from the Rudolph Voll collection in California. Rudolph Voll (1911 - 2009) visited Hong Kong on a regular basis during the 1970's and acquired a very large collection of small jade items (See Quick Find 4167). Length 6.7 cm. Width 3.5 cm. Depth 1.1 cm. Weight 28.6 grams.
