Very small detailed carving of a monkey holding a peach. Part of the skin is left on its back. A monkey holding a peach expresses the wish that the wearer and his descendants may cherish long life. It comes from the rebus Feng Hou Bao Shou which means May you embrace immortality. Feng means Confer upon. Hou is the Monkey. Bao means Hold and Shou means Longevity. The carving dates from the Qing period (1644 - 1912) and was acquired in Hong Kong in 1989. Height 2.4 cm. Width 2.0 cm. Depth 1.6 cm. Weight 8.7 grams.
