A pair of mythological beasts called qilins curl around an oval bi disc. The qilin is a symbol of happiness. Legends say that it brings many sons who will become successful scholars. This well-made carving dates from the Qing period (1644 - 1912). It was acquired in Hong Kong at the end of the 1980's. Length 5.2 cm. Width 3.5 cm. Depth 1.8 cm. Weight 34.5 grams.
