Small carving of a lying sheep made from yellow jade and showing signs of calcification. Sheep symbolize filial piety because the young kneel when they nurse - they bow to the mother. The carving was acquired in Hong Kong in 1985 and was made sometime between the Song (960 - 1279) to the Ming period (1368 - 6144). Length 3.8 cm. Width 1.2 cm. Height 2.3 cm. Weight 15.6 grams.
