We bought this flower in 1993 from the tourist shop in the old Shanghai museum near the Bund. At that time not only tourist items were sold at the museum but also some genuine antiques. The price was a hefty FEC 500, for that time a high price. The FEC (Foreign Exchange Currency) was the currency with which foreign visitors had to pay in those years. The exchange rate of the FEC was about 10% higher than the RMB (Renminbi). The flower shows signs of long burial. It is not depicted in professor Cheng’s book ‘Jade Flowers and Floral Patterns in Chinese Decorative Art’ .
