Grooved flower with a triangular hole. The quality and thickness of this flower make us believe that it dates from the Yuan dynasty (1272 – 1368 AD) or perhaps even from the Song period (960 – 1179 AD). Its color has changed as a result of fire. Fires were quite common in the old days as most Chinese houses were built of wood. This type of flower is not depicted in professor Cheng Te-k’un’s book ‘Jade Flowers and Floral Patterns in Chinese Decorative Art’.
