Many years ago a dealer in Hong Kong sold us these two half flowers. We had never seen anything like it. Each of the two halves was obviously sewn on opposite lapels of a dress. At first we had serious doubts if these unusual two halves were genuine. But we also figured that a faker would probably not go through a lot of trouble to create such an unusual design. We also noticed that they had age and to our delight our gut feeling appeared to have been correct when we discovered an identical pair in the Dr S.Y Kwan Collection several years later. This type of flower is not depicted in professor Cheng Te-k’un’s book ‘Jade Flowers and Floral Patterns in Chinese Decorative Art ‘.
