The artisan who made this white glass flower tried to imitate a jade example. It is badly chipped and these chips as well as air bubbles reveal that it is made of glass. A comparable flower in jade is nr 69 (5427) in the Lowlands-collection which can be found under ‘compound’ flowers. Both flowers date from the Ming period (1368 – 1644). A similar type of flower in jade (nr 226) is depicted in professor Cheng Te-k’un’s book ‘Jade Flowers and Floral Patterns in Chinese Decorative Art’。
