Glass flower disc – (3759)
[3759]

Large white glass flower disc. The artisan who carved this large flower used a glass color which could easily be mistaken for jade were it not for the chips on the back. In fact the dealer who sold this disc to us after a few years of negotiating believed for a long time that it was actually jade. The chips are only visible on the surface of the back and may perhaps have been caused while trying to establish its true identity. The rim of the flower is in perfect condition which is exceptional considering the material from which it is made and its age as it dates from the Ming period (1368 – 1644). This type of flower is not depicted in professor Cheng Te-k’un’s book ‘Jade Flowers and Floral Patterns in Chinese Decorative Art ‘.
