We have no reference to establish the age of this flower but we feel that it dates definitely from the Ming period (1368 – 1644) and may possibly even be older. It is made of a milky material which we believe to be glass and it is unusually thick (0.9 cm). The quality is simple but the carving is well executed. This type of flower is not depicted in professor Cheng Te-k’un’s book ‘Jade Flowers and Floral Patterns in Chinese Decorative Art ‘.
