The centre of this rosette is covered by a silver inset in the shape of a flower. The material is ‘xiu yu’ jade which is much cheaper than the common material used, the so-called ‘Hetian’ jade. The flower is attached to a three-pronged hairpin by four coiled clamps. A similar type of flower (nr 130) is depicted in professor Cheng Te-k’un’s book ‘Jade Flowers and Floral Patterns in Chinese Decorative Art’。
