Burnt belt hook with a dragon head - (6945)
[6945]

This belt hook was originally made of white jade but got burned in a fire. It now has the typical greyish brown and 'baby-blush' discoloration of burned jade. Fires broke out frequently as houses were constructed of wood in China. The carving of this belt hook is exquisite which points at an 18th century date or possibly even somewhat earlier. It was acquired in Hong Kong in 1989. Length 10.0 cm. Width 1.9 cm. Depth 2.3 cm. Weight 64.1 grams.
