Glass belt ornament with crouching boy - (3304)
[3304]

It is almost incredible that a glass object has survived for so many years. Of course it has some damage, especially some chips on the buttons at the back, but for the rest the ornament is still in rather good shape. The artist tried to simulate jade and the object could easily pass as such were it not for the typical sharp chips seen on glass. The design of a crouching boy holding a sprig is generally attributed to the Ming period (1368 - 1644). See 6796 for a comparable carving in jade. Length 6.1 cm. Width 4.8 cm. Depth 1.9 cm.
