Belt clasp with attributes of the Eight Immortals - (7883)

This double belt clasp is made of a light greyish jade and decorated with the attributes of the Eight Immortals. The carver depicted all items in great detail such as the fan of Zhongli Quan, the bamboo drum and rods of Zhang Guo Lao, the sword of Lu Dongbin, the castanets of Cao Guojiu, the gourd and crutch of Li Tieguai, the flute of Han Xiangxi, the flower basket of Lan Caihe and the lotus and fly whisk of He Ziangu. Also depicted are a lingzhi fungus and a 'shou' character both expressing the wish for a long life. The clasp originally belonged to a wealthy lady and dates from the middle Qing period (1644 - 1912). Width 6.8 cm. Height 5.4 cm. Depth 0.40 cm. Weight 23.6 grams. Previously the buckle belonged to Rudolph Voll (1911-2009) who acquired it in the 1970’s in Hong Kong. For further information about Rudolph Voll see Quick Find 4167.
