White jade carving of a boy on an elephant. Despite the fact that it is modern, it contains a symbolic message just like in the old days. A Boy climbing (qixiang) or riding on an Elephant is a pun ‘May there be good fortune (jixiang)’. The phrase ‘Riding an elephant’ is close in pronunciation to ‘Good Fortune’ or ‘Auspicious’ (jixiang). The boy is holding a branch of the sacred fungus called 'lingzhi' fungus (Longevity) in his hands. A small part of the ‘skin’ of the stone remains on one ear of the elephant. We found this small carving in Shanghai in 2012. Height 3.7 cm. Width 3 cm. Depth 1.9 cm.
