Pure white jade 'Ruyi' scepter in the shape of a lingzhi fungus. Ruyi stands for 'As you wish' and the 'lingzhi' fungus is symbolic for a Long Life. Two mythical animals called 'qilins' (bringers of a good omen) seem to clamber around the stem of the mushroom. The jade is of a pure white ' cloudy' quality and the carving is very well executed but clearly of recent manufacture. The stem of the mushroom was hollowed out to reduce its weight which creates an 'airy' touch. It was added to the Lowlands-collection from Japan in 2006. Length 14.3 cm. Width 4.8 cm. Depth 2.1 cm. Weight 93.3 grams.
