Yellow jade plaque with a qilong in the clouds – (2631)
[2631]

Openwork yellow jade plaque decorated with a mythical creature called ‘Qilong’ in the clouds. The Qilong is a mythical creature that is a symbol of dynamism and flexibility. Clouds represent the ‘Granting of all wishes’. The dealer from which we bought this plaque claimed that it was quite old but we have our doubts and date it to the 20th century as the carving is not as fine as earlier pieces in the collection. The wooden stand is definitely of later date. Width plaque 5.7 cm. Height plaque 5.0 cm. Thickness plaque 0.7 cm. Height including stand 9 cm.
