Man with ruyi scepter and fu dog - (6541)
[6541]

Smiling figure made of very light green (almost white) Hetian jade. He has a ruyi scepter in his hands which symbolizes a wish to receive everything that one wishes. At his back is a very cute, almost Disney-like, Fu dog. There is a brownish fissure between the man and the dog which in combination with the extremely accurate carving makes us believe that this figure may be slightly older than the Qing dating (1644 - 1912) which we had originally in mind. A Ming date (1368 - 1644) seems also very well possible considering the bulging circular eyes, flat snout and flame-like ribbons on the flank of the Fu dog. This carving was acquired in Hong Kong in 1986. Height 5.0 cm. Width 4.7 cm. Depth 2.7 cm. Weight 84.4 grams.
