A boy is pulling a toy boat on wheels. This delightful figure was acquired from an antiques shop on Hollywood Road, Hong Kong in 1993. On the boat lies something which resembles a fruit but we are not sure. Is it perhaps an apple with one quarter cut off? An apple can be a visual pun for peace because the Chinese word for apple (pingguo 苹果) and the word for peace (pingan 平安) are both pronounced ping. The jade and the carving are both of good quality which leads us to believe that this figure was made in the beginning of the 19th century in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912) but it may be of slightly earlier date. Height 4.7 cm. Width 5.9 cm. Depth 2.1 cm. Weight 58.6 grams.
