Well-executed carving of a butterfly made of a grey colored jade. The material shows some darker spots which suggest that it may have been close to or in a fire. Fires were frequent in China where most houses were made of wood. It dates from the Ming period (1368 - 1644) and entered the Lowlands-collection from Hong Kong in 1992. Width 4.5 cm. Height 2.8 cm.
