Lotus flowers in openwork (8645)
[8645]

Openwork jade ornament in the shape of a sprig of flowers which in our view depicts lotus flowers. Interesting is that the artisan did not use the typical round leaves of a lotus but added leaves of another plant instead. The lotus is the symbol of Purity and one of the eight Buddhist precious things. Its purity is confirmed when it emerges from muddy water without getting dirty and it ymbolizes 'Continuous Harmony'. The thickness and the style of this jade ornament are typical characteristics of the Ming dynasty (1368 – 1644) which is why we place it in that period. Length 4.7 cm. Width 2.6 cm. Thickness 0.27 cm.
