We found this jade mountain in an antiques shop in Zurich, Switzerland in 2012. It was stashed away under the counter and had been in the private collection of the dealer for more than 25 years. He had just decided to sell it. We arrived at exactly the right time. Depicted is a mountain with a large gate, houses, trees and a bridge. The carver clearly had the intention just to show nature at its best so the usual sages which one sees on other mountain carvings are missing on this one. The back shows a pine tree against a rocky backdrop. The carving dates from the Qing period (1644 - 1912). Height 24 cm. Width 20.5 cm. Depth 7 cm.
