Again one of those objects made of such pure white jade that it is almost impossible to obtain good photos. This small pendant outclasses many other carvings because of its very fine details. The round side is covered in finely carved C-scrolls. The top depicts a Phoenix (female, empress) and the bottom, carved out of the skin of the stone, a Dragon (male, emperor). The cylinder was, without much doubt, presented as a wedding gift and made during the early Qing period (1644 - 1912). We acquired it from a jade dealer on Cat Street, Hong Kong, in 1987. Length 2.8 cm. Diameter 1.7 cm. Weight 14.1 grams.
