Shoes - (9147)
[9147]

A wedding gift in white jade is carved in the shape of a ladies’ shoe (lotus shoe) and a men's shoe. There is little doubt that the two shoes refer to a happy marriage. On one side of the object are two melons which symbolize lots of offspring because of the many seeds found in these fruits. We discovered this very well executed carving in Cat Street, Hong Kong, in 1985. It dates from the middle of the Qing period (1644 - 1912). Length 4.4 cm. Width 3.1 cm. Depth 1.7 cm. Weight 27.2 grams.
