Melons and gnarling tendrils decorate this carving which is made of a pale celadon jade. Some of the ‘skin’ is left on the front to improve its attractiveness. Interesting is the shape of this toggle when viewed from the back. It resembles a peach symbolizing a wish for a long life. A melon (瓜: guā) symbolizes 'Family Unity'. Melons hold out the wish that the family will, like the moon, stay round, large, whole and united. We added this toggle to the collection in Bangkok in 1986. Length 4.7 cm. Width 4.6 cm. Height 2.3 cm. Weight 51.7 grams.
