Lingzhi fungus and Rohdea Japonica - (6850)
[6850]

A large and a very small 'Lingzhi' fungus form the main elements of this pure white pendant. A plant called ‘wannianqing’ with four berries complements the picture. ‘Wannianqing’ (Rohdea Japonica) means ‘green for ten thousand years’. The green symbolizes continued Growth and Happiness and the clusters of red berries stand for Numerous Descendants. Lingzhi (灵芝), also known as the ‘Glossy Ganoderma’, is the sacred fungus of Immortality that grows on the trunks or roots of trees. The Lingzhi does not decay like other fungus but instead becomes woody and thus can survive for a long time. For this reason, it has become associated with Longevity. There is little doubt that this exquisite pendant dates from the Qianlong period (1736 - 1795). Found in Amsterdam in 1970. Length 4.4 cm. Width 3.1 cm. Depth 1.4 cm. Weight 24.2 grams.
