Nicely carved pendant made of very pale green, almost white, jade. One side is carved with a depiction of the famous Song dynasty poet Mi Fu (1051–1107) who is bowing to a large ornamental perforated rock. Mi Fu was obsessed with collecting rocks. He was an eccentric who declared one rock to be his brother and he would bow to his ‘brother’ rock in a display of the filial devotion given to older brothers. Behind him stands a servant with a fan. The other side is decorated with Chinese characters and signed by a carver called Wen Wan. The pendant dates from the middle of the Qing period (1644 – 1912) and was added to the collection in Singapore in 1983. Height 5.6 cm. Width 4.4 cm. Thickness 0.64 cm. Weight 39.0 grams.
