Shaped like a bell, this toggle was carved from a pebble without removing the ‘skin’ of the stone. The result is a pleasing color and good ‘touch’ of this ‘bell’. In China, bells were believed to scare away evil spirits. The artisan also carved a ‘shou’ (Long life) symbol on this bell. It dates from the Qing period (1644 – 1912AD) and was added to the Lowlands-collection in Hong Kong in 1984. Length 5.5 cm. Width 3.8 cm. Depth 2.4 cm. Weight 67.1 grams.
