On top of this white jade chop is a coiled up animal, perhaps a dog. The characters are rather crudely carved. and read 護封 but we don’t know what this means. The chop dates from the late Qing dynasty (1644 - 1912) and was acquired by us in 2013. Diameter 1.9 cm. Height 1.8 cm. Weight 11.1 grams. Previously the chop belonged to Rudolph Voll (1911-2009) who acquired it in the 1970’s in Hong Kong. For further information about Rudolph Voll see Quick Find 4167.
