Qilin biting its tail – (2627)

Well carved chop dating from the 18th century or earlier. It was discovered in an antiques shop in London in 1973. The carving is well done but the material is of a slightly dull greyish color with black spots which is the result of having been in a fire. The inscription was ground off which was a common practice when the owner passed away. Height 5.9 cm. Width 4.4 cm. Depth 4.4 cm. Weight 262.3 grams
