Very well preserved wine vessel ‘Hu’ – (0474)
[0474]

Bronze vessel ‘Hu’ which is very well preserved as large sections of its surface have not been corroded. Usually this happens to bronzes which were packed in lacquered wooden boxes or which were found in dry surroundings. Spots that are not corroded almost look like new on this vessel which is astonishing considering its age. The ‘Hu’ was left undecorated except for the monster mask handles. It dates from the Eastern Han period (25 – 22OAD). Height 35 cm. Diameter 25 cm.
