Chariot post finial - (4879)

Silver inlaid bronze object which was once attached to one of the posts at the back of a chariot where the charioteer would climb aboard. Finials such as this one served a practical and a decorative purpose and must have belonged to an influential person. Part of the original wooden post is still inside. It is inlaid with silver whirls and dates from the Warring States (475 – 221BC) to the Western Han period (206BC – 25AD). Height 6.9 cm. Diameter top 4.2 cm.
