Lynchpin with human mask - (2405)

Bronze lynchpin decorated with a human face. It dates from about 300BC during the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). A lynchpin was used on each one of the two axle caps of a chariot to make sure that the cap at the end of the axle would not become loose. Axle caps in turn fixed the wheel to the axle. The length of the pin is 12 cm.
