Very small Bixie – (8701)
[8701]

Very small shoushan stone seal topped by a Bixie. A Bixie (辟邪) is a lion-like mythological Chinese creature which is considered as an exorcising animal. The word Bixie literally means ‘Avoid Evil’. The seal has seen much use but the quality of the carving is still visible. It is not inscribed which is also due to its very small size but we believe that it may date from the early Qing period (1644 – 1912). The seal-print is very well executed. Height 2.2 cm. Width and depth 1.7 cm. Weight 7.5 grams.
