Setting up a fish trap - (5985)

Two men are pushing a bamboo fish trap forward to close off an escape route for the fish. A large fish jumps out off the water in an attempt to free itself. The background consists of hills, a pine tree and houses. The deep-carved armorial shows a swimming salmon surrounded by a belt with the motto in Latin ‘Fortis et Fidus’ which means ’Strong and Faithful’ and belongs to the Scottish MacLachlan family. The ring around the crest is decorated with two animals which look like lambs as well as rocks, flowers, houses and a tree. The border is decorated with flowers and foliage. The counter dates from the Daoguang period (道光 1820 – 1850). Diameter 3.8 cm. Thickness 0.26 cm.
