Extra-large size counter made of very thick bright mother-of-pearl. One side is decorated with a man armed with a lance who seems to be chasing goats of which one is climbing in a tree. A pine tree grows in the foreground while the background is lined with houses and a banana tree. On the back side of this counter is a crest with a falcon rising on a lure and the initials ‘CEMB’ which are not as finely inscribed as the average Chinese inscription and may possibly be have been added in Europe. The rim around the crest depicts two birds, houses and trees. The superb carving consists of numerous layers and dates from the Daoguang period (道光1820 – 1850). Diameter 4.3 cm. Thickness 0.30 cm.
