Building a jetty - (4012)
[4012]

Two men are driving piles into the ground which will form the basis of a new jetty. Another jetty can be seen on the left. Houses and a pagoda stand in the background. The deep-carved armorial shows a seated lion wearing a crown which is the family crest of Sir Kildare Dixon Borrowes (Baronet). It is flanked by two birds which are presumably stilt walkers judged by their long beaks and legs. The intricately fretted border is decorated with flowers, fruits and on the front two butterflies, symbols of a happy marriage. The counter dates from the Daoguang period (道光 1820 – 1850). Length 6.9 cm. Height 2.8 cm. Thickness 0.25 cm.
