Saucer with flowers and mountains – (0035)
[0035]

Are these the Mountains of Longevity? And what kind of flowers are depicted on this porcelain blue and white saucer? The back is covered in a very nice ‘café-au-lait’ glaze and bears a mark ‘Kangxi nian zhi ‘ (made in the Kangxi period) which is in conformity with the type of design on the front. Half plum flowers grace the rim. The plum symbolizes courage and hope because it blossoms first and bravely stands against the dangers of winter. Apart from this, its five petals represent the Five Blessings, Health, Wealth, Old age, Love of virtue and a peaceful death. The saucer dates from the Kangxi period (1661 – 1722). Diameter 13.1 cm. Height 2.3 cm.
