Two equestrian figures and their retinue – (0272)
[0272]

Group of cold-painted pottery funerary figures consisting of a master and a lady, both on horseback, two flag bearers, a glazed sedan chair, four sedan chair bearers, a black stallion, a mare and a foal. It is very rare to find Ming figures on horseback but what is even rarer is the document chest inside the sedan chair. The chest is loose and rests on two notches on the inside of the sedan chair. The master has a sword, a quiver and a sheath for his bow while the lady holds an unknown object under her arm. We have never seen an equestrian Ming (1368 – 1644) funerary set of this quality before. Height master on horseback 35 cm. Height sedan chair 28 cm. These objects were sold at auction in 2022 and are no longer in the Lowlands-collection.
