Grain mill – (2013)
[2013]

Miniature green glazed pottery model of a ‘table’ grain mill. Originally the roller had a loop on its side, now broken, which was attached to a wooden peg in the centre of the table. On the short side of the roller is hole through which a beam would be inserted so that the roller could be moved around. In real life the grain was poured on the rough central part and the stone roller would grind it. On the outer rim of the table is a flat space which would hold the ground flour and the husks. The glaze of the mill and roller have a nice iridescence. The mill dates from the Ming period (1368 – 1644). Table: Diameter top 13.4 cm. Diameter base 10 cm. Height 8.5 cm. Roller: Length 6.4 cm. Width 5.8 cm. Height 3.3 cm. THIS ITEM WAS SOLD AT AUCTION IN 2022.
