Miniature pair of partly glazed pottery folding chairs. This type of chair is called a ‘Horseshoe’ chair after the shape of its backrest which has the shape of a horseshoe. Horseshoe chairs were quite popular during the Ming period. When folded, they could easily be stored against a wall thereby saving space. The seat of a life-sized one was made of braided rope which was soft and flexible. These pottery ones which are in good condition date from the Ming period (1368 – 1644). Height 21.8 cm.
