Glazed pottery ox and cart. The cart is made of unglazed red pottery whereas the bullock and the wheels are covered in a 'straw-glaze', so called because of its yellowish color. Originally a water-based paint was applied over bullock, wheels and cart but this was washed off and little of it is still visible. The roof shape of the cart reveals that it must have had a hood at one time which was perhaps made of another material. The bullock and cart date from the Sui to Tang periods (AD 591 - 907). Cart: Length 16.8 cm. Width 12 cm. Height 19 cm. Ox: Length 23.8 cm. Width 9.5 cm. Height 19.8 cm. including horns. Wheels: Diameter 16.5 cm. Depth 6.5 cm including axle tip.
