Stand for the storage of three opium pipe bowls. It is made of hardwood and inlaid with mother-of-pearl flowers and a brass floral design. On top the decoration consists of two Plum flowers. The five petals of the Plum flower symbolize the Five Blessings, Old age, Health, Wealth, Love of Virtue and a Peaceful death. The front and the sides are embellished with Osmanthus flowers which symbolize a wish for Distinguished Sons. The drawer at the back serves to catch opium dross droppings and to store opium tools. The stand dates from the end of the Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 17.4 cm. Height 6.6 cm. Width 4.5 cm.
