Small round silver-plated opium box engraved all around with a garden scene and two Cranes and a Peach on the lid. The scene depicts a lady and a gentleman standing under willow trees. A willow tree grows bright green young shoots which have the color of jadeite (Fei Tsui). The color Green (Lu) is also a pun for ‘Official Salary’ (Lu) and represents future Prosperity. The lady and gentleman symbolize a Harmonious Marriage and it could well be possible that this small opium box once belonged to a woman. It dates from the end of the Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 3.4 cm. Diameter 2.6 cm. Weight 36 grams.
