Long opium needle with a spoon. The spoon was used to scoop opium from a container and an opium needle was used to free the opening of a pipe bowl once a blob of opium was placed on it. The opening of a bowl should be free in order to inhale the opium vapor. The needle dates from the end of the Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 22.7 cm. Spoon diameter 1.3 cm.
