Set of two cleaning tools which were used to scrape the dross (remains of used opium) out of the inside of an opium bowl after smoking. They are made of copper and brass with silver bands. On the handles a depiction of Plum flowers is inlaid with fine silver threads. The five petals of the Plum flower symbolize the Five Blessings, Old age, Health, Wealth, Love of Virtue and a Peaceful death. The set dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 17.7 cm. Diameter grip 1.7 cm.
