Paktong opium brush and cutter. The cutter which looks somewhat like an axe was used to cut portions of opium and the holes and slit in the ‘Axe’ were used to scrape of the opium from the opium needle. The brush was used to brush opium residues onto a small shovel (see QF 6822). This residue called dross was later mixed with fresh opium to keep the cost of smoking down. The tool dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Length 13.0 cm. Width cutter 3.0 cm.
